Amelia Wilding is a Bassist/Composer/Songwriter from Sussex, currently based in SE London. She is a multi-instrumentalist, with her primary instrument being the electric bass.

Amelia began playing bass at the age of 15, spending her after-school hours performing with various local concert and jazz bands. It was during this time that she taught herself to read music in a live ensemble setting. She went on to attend Northbrook MET, where she achieved a Distinction star in an Extended Diploma in Music Performance and Production. During her studies, she also earned Grade 8 in Electric Bass and Grade 8 in Music Theory. Amelia later secured a place on the Junior Guildhall Jazz Course on a full scholarship for her final year of further education.

It was around this period that Amelia realised playing in big bands was both her strongest and most enjoyable musical environment. She therefore chose to pursue jazz as her next musical direction, a genre in which she could fully challenge herself. She went on to study for a BMus in Jazz Bass at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where she spent four years honing her craft under the mentorship of Yolanda Charles.

Amelia has worked, and continues to work, with organisations such as Tomorrow’s Warriors, performing with Female Frontline, The Julian Joseph Jazz Academy, and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, where she currently holds the bass chair. She has performed extensively with the music of Charles Mingus at PizzaExpress Jazz Club Soho, and with Latin and Afro-Cuban ensembles at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club.

Her strengths lie in both composition and arrangement as well as performance. She possesses a deep understanding of ensemble dynamics and is a genre-fluid musician. Amelia began writing songs during her second year at Trinity Laban, drawing inspiration from artists including Hiatus Kaiyote, Esperanza Spalding, Joni Mitchell, Little Simz, and Kae Tempest. Her ability to craft meaningful and engaging music quickly gained recognition among her peers.

As a solo artist, Amelia has supported acts such as YolanDa Brown and SteamDown and regularly headlines her own shows at venues across London.

Over the past year, she has collaborated with alternative pop artists such as Alfie Templeman, Elijah Waters, FREDWAVE and Lord APEX as a songwriter, composer, and bassist. She also works with artists including I.AM.AFIYA and LEDI as an arranger, a role for which she is increasingly in demand.
